As a Pulitzer Prize winner and former U.S. Poet Laureate, one might imagine creation comes easy for Ted Kooser, yet the exact opposite is true. Even a lifelong devotion to writing and poetry, Ted still wakes at 4:30 am each day, sits down at his desk, and does the work. While much of this drill will never be read by other eyes, it’s the process that must happen–a process of relating to human beings and creating work that will endure far beyond his years.
